ENGW 1101

2/18/16

1. Pie was a colored prostitute that worked for Ms. Abby in Pikesville. She was also the first woman Henry had ever saw in a while. Henry also loved her as if she was his mother.

2. Ms Abby was Pie's owner and owned all the other prostitutes at Pikesville Hotel. She was described by Henry to be ugly and mean looking.

3. Sibonia is a feeble minded slave. She is also Libby's sister and together they work at the pen behind Ms. Abby's hotel. She speaks really well for someone who seems crazy so Onion thought she might be faking being feeble minded.

4. Darg is described by Henry to be tall as Frederick but ugly. He was raw powerful and looked big. He tends to the slaves in the pen.

5. The Reverend used to be part of John Brown's army and then left the army to become a pro slave. He was responsible for the death of Fred and the reason John Brown set off without saying anything.

GLB Reading Log Questions

1. The Good lord bird means wisdom. The Good Lord represents understanding that will last a whole lifetime. The Good Lord bird is the title of the book.

2. Henry's nickname is Onion and the Old man gave him that name when he ate the onion that was a good luck charm for him.

3. His rationale was that every slave lies. He stated "No man or woman in bondage ever prospered stating their true thoughts to the boss" (McBride 30). I do think it is justifiable because if slaves were to tell the truth they would be treated poorly than they already are,

Good Lord Bird Question

Good Lord Bird Question
1/29/15

There is no valid reason for a person to tell a lie even if it is beneficial to other people. Lying can betray the trust of a person and after that, that individual is known as a liar and everything that is said is believed to be a lie. There is always a consequence for every lie told. It is not permissible to lie in the situation that took place in the story, The Good Lord Bird. Henry Lying about his name and his gender was not the ideal thing to do because it could lead bigger problems and he would have to tell more lies to cover each lie he told. Lying is also not permissible in this situation because Henry is a Christian and it is a sin to lie. John Brown is heavily religious and believes everything that is in the Bible. If he found out that Henry was lying about his name, he would not be able to trust Henry and that could lead to other consequences.

Getting to Know You

Jane Owusu

My name is Jane Owusu and during my free time I enjoy taking a nap. I do not play any sports but I use to play soccer just as a hobby. I am always on social media especially instagram and snapchat and with instagram I only post maybe twice a month. I am one to look at other people's post rather than post myself. In my life the most ridiculous lie I ever told was telling my grandmother that I took a shower she caught me by checking to see if my sponge was wet. I told this lie because at that time I did not feel like taking a shower when she told me to. The last thing I failed, was my driving test. I was failed for driving too slow and I learned to pick up my pace when driving and to not worry about being nervous. As a writer I will give myself a C. I still think there are places I can improve and that is what I hope to learn this semester. When I am writing I just let the words flow, I find it difficult to follow an outline if given one. The most recent book I read was Allegiant. I would describe a hero to be someone who helps others without thinking about the risk.
